First four winners of the year!

My team at Saffron House Stables have worked extremely hard this winter and their efforts are now paying off on the track. Our first 11 runners this year have yielded 4 winners at 36%.

LUA DE MEL won on debut at Lingfield under a clever ride from BEN CURTIS for owners Luke Lillingston and Anthony Warrender. She was professionally away from the gates and was always holding the well supported favourite trained by Ed Walker (who has subsequently won well since). This was a special day as Luke was one of the first people to give me a chance in racing and I owe an lot to him.

JACK BERRY HOUSE was a run away winner at Wolverhampton for The Dice Men with BEN CURTIS in the saddle again. The application of the blinkers and a step up in trip saw him to good effect. We wish his new connections the best of luck with him after being claimed. The Dice Men are now my winning most owners and have been big supporters from day one!

THREE C’S got the perfect Southwell ride from my amateur jockey ANTONIA PECK. He was smartly away and raced efficiently throughout, he picked up well and put the race to bed with a minimum of fuss. Antonia is a huge asset to my team and a lovely rider, I hope we will have more days in the sun through the turf season. There should not be an amateur race without her name on the card and I hope other trainers take note of her ability.

LUA DE MEL was a decisive winner under a penalty at Newcastle last night. She made all in similar fashion to her debut at Lingfield and looks a filly who will give her owners plenty of fun days out in the coming months. The bare form of the race was nothing to write home about but I was taken by her attitude and professionalism in such awful weather!
